Hello friends! It has been almost an entire year since the last TGS Braid Bar and I take full responsibility for the lack of tutorials. Last summer I made an impulse decision that resulted in me chopping off around 8 inches of hair (YIKES). As a result, I wasn’t able to do a lot of my favorite braids. BUT after 10 long months my hair is almost back to full dramatic length and my ability to do fun Rapunzel braids is back. Without further ado, below is one of my new favorite hairstyles which I have named the Trio Bun Braid. It’s a fun version of the 90s half up half down bun but with a few braids thrown in. I like it for spring weather because I can have my hair down while still keeping it out of my face. It usually takes me around 15 minutes to throw this together in the mornings and only requires knowledge of how to dutch french braid. Enjoy!
TRIO BRAID BUN
Start off by sectioning off the top portion of your hair. I will typically take the hair starting about an inch or so above both of my ears and wrapping the bottom half in a clip or elastic to keep it out of the way.
From there, section off your top portion into three other sections (right, center and left) and dutch french braid each of them about three inches past your scalp. Make sure to braid toward the back of your head. If you braid with your hair pulled more forward or to the side you will have little loops coming up when you eventually pull all three braids back into the bun.
You now have three dutch french braids sitting on the top of your head. Take this time to pull out as much hair as you want to make them thicker and more messy as you see fit.
My preferred method of top knot is a twist but if you have another favorite way (pull through, tuck, bobby pins) then have at it. For a twist, take your three tied off braids and twirl them together. Wrap your twist around itself until you get a bun and tie down with a hair tie.
Secure any loose hairs with bobby pins and you are good to go! If i’m going to be running around through the day I will take a light hairspray and try to lock all the baby hairs in as well but you do you.
