Okay y’all. It’s the last week of July, we are in the deep end of the pool that is summertime (yes, that was a horrid metaphor), and all I want to do at this point is go on a road trip. I’ve had my time laying at the pool and getting crispy. I’ve spent time at the beach and had my beach bonfires. Now I have the desire, nay, the need to runaway from life via my car. I’m talking windows down, hair flying everywhere, cruising down the highway in the sunshine. Because in this horrible metaphor, a road trip is equivalent to laying on a huge ass floaty and coasting around the deep end with a drink that has a little umbrella in hand. And honest to goodness, is there a better sensation in this life? No. No, there is not. Unless you add in Ben Rector.
Ben Rector is my homeboy. His music is my JAM. Everyone should have some Ben Rector in their lives because his music is the actual embodiment of all the simple goodness in life set to melodic piano-driven tunes. We’re talking prime singer-songwriter/easy listening, folks.
I’ve been a Ben Rector fan girl since my sophomore year of college — his honest lyrics have become the score of my journey of falling in love with a boy. His catchy and bright tunes regularly pick me up when I feel like a day has gone to shit before 8am. His music honestly reminds me of what is truly important in this life and all the little things I have to be thankful for. Ben Rector makes easy, breezy, beautiful songs, which is what my soul needs while cruising on the highway, soaking in the sun and wind. So seize the summer, go for a drive, and fall in love with my fave homeboy with a little smattering of all his greatness packed in to one playlist.
P.S. Ben is also a total dork and you should follow him on Instagram.
