If there is one thing to know about me, it’s that I go HARD for the holiday season. Honestly, my holiday obsession lasts year round. I wore my “Meowy Xmas” socks to a job interview back in July and didn’t think twice about it. (I got the job and I attribute it solely to the socks.) However, as soon as September 1st – the true beginning of the “socially acceptable” holiday season – rolls around, I become a maniac. My typical timeline consists of this:
- September 1: Christmas music begins
- October 31: Christmas Lights are hung in the bedroom
- November 1: Charlie Brown Christmas Shirt is worn
- November 2 – December 31: Overall manic/obsessive state
- January 1: Prep begins for the following Holiday Season
I LIVE for all things holiday. That’s a lie. I LIVE for almost all things holiday…. but I don’t mess with Peppermint. DRAG ME. The thing I love the most each and every holiday season (aka the entire year) is Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” It is truly the perfect song. It evokes pure holiday eleganza. I have been and will continue to listen to it on repeat. It’s a booty shaker, a perfect karaoke number, an emotional roller coaster, a vocal chord destroyer, and all around good time! Mariah’s vocals are unrivaled on this song. There isn’t a single cover that does it justice. ALSO, let’s give a round of applause to the back up singers. Every time I sing this song, it’s a battle between the lead and background vocals because both are sheer genius. If you aren’t out of breath and nearly dead after singing along, you’re doing it extremely wrong. (NOTE: I heard a remix of “AIWFCIY” at a club last December and nearly had a heart attack…it’s THAT good!)
To really capture how much I love this song and what it means to me, I created a playlist that is simply “All I Want For Christmas Is You” 101 times in a row. I added the Mariah Carey/Justin Bieber “Super Festive” remix as the last song to be nice.
Enjoy the nearly SEVEN (7) HOURS of “All I Want For Christmas Is You” one after another. I just listened to the entire 6 hours and 45 minute playlist and I still can’t get enough. If anyone is looking for a listening companion HIT.ME.UP. I’m always down for some Mariah n Chill and I have the album on vinyl!
