Hi friends, we’re (Kaitlin and Sarah) back with another fashion week recap! The next few weeks are the Spring/Summer Ready to Wear 2018 collections and we will once again be bringing you our favorite collections and looks. We start once again in New York and are breaking up NYFW into two parts, 9/7 – 9/10 and 9/11 – 9/14. Let’s do this.
SAS: Rachel Zoe is a hit and miss for me but this collection was HIT. I am very obsessed with the greenery print outfit in Look 3 (plant lady for sure) and the all white pant suit in Look 20 is giving me all of the First Wives Club vibes.
KJS: Look 3 and 14 are my favorites in this collection. I thought that I was kind of over the palm print (it was everywhere this summer), but the texture of this pattern feels fresh. Plus, those gold pointed heels are being added to my to-buy list as we speak. Love. And look 14 is PERFECT. That plunging neckline?! YES.
SAS: I loved the location of this Rachel Antonoff shoot, it felt very nostalgic and familiar which made me love the collection even more. Living for the red fiesta ruffles in Look 8 and the print of Look 20.
KJS: Oh my gosh, the colors are perfect. I’m all about pops of color, off the shoulder, and mixed prints, so I loved this whole collection. Look 8 is my jam.
SAS: I don’t know if I’ve ever seen Alena Akhmadullina’s collections before, maybe I’ve been living under a rock, but this one is GORGEOUS and one of my favorites from the entire week. All of the beading and detailing in each look is absolutely insane and the end results speak for themselves. I just have a vision of a young Stevie Nicks wearing Look 51 at a show at the Hollywood Bowl and now I really need it to come true.
KJS: Looks 6 and 47 are my favorite from this collection. I also haven’t seen any of Alena Akhmadullina’s collections before, but I’m a huge fan now. Plus, the hair and makeup is so seemingly simple but fresh feeling, which really lets us focus on the amazing detail in the outfits. This beading is what dreams are made of.
SAS: Gary Graham is another one that flew under my own personal radar but this season’s offering caught my eye. I love the washed out pastels and neutrals for spring and each piece just looks so delicate and stunning.
KJS: The neutrals and textures of this collection are so beautiful. Pair the feminine dresses with those boots, and you’ve got a recipe for the perfect spring look.
SAS: What do you say about the man that is a living fashion legend. Zac Posen nails it every single season and this one made my jaw drop (hence the six photos, I really couldn’t narrow it down). He forewent a runway show but I actually think these pieces look better in a photoshoot environment. The gowns just feel so BIG that it makes sense to let them live and breathe in a photograph rather than trying to capture them walking down a runway. Look 49 took my breath away and Kate Upton is wearing the HELL out of that gown.
KJS: There is not a single look that I don’t like out of this collection. I wanted to add more pictures to this, but I think you get the point. This photoshoot was glamorous as HELL and I am so about it. I even loved how some of the photos were in black and white and so old-Hollywood-glam feeling. It was next level stunning. The gowns are like dreams. Kate Upton is a BABE (again with the old-Hollywood feel) and that other model who’s name I don’t know is STUNNING in look 46. Can I have that dress? THANKS.
SAS: This collection was simple yet elegant. The 70s vibes were STRONG hence my initial attraction to it. That coat in Look 13 is really to die for.
SAS: I wasn’t super taken with this season’s Pamella Roland collection on the whole but these two gowns felt different and fresh.
SAS: Yes both of my choices from Tom Ford were Joan Smalls. No I am not sorry.
SAS: Novis was one of my picks during AW17 and they are making another appearance in SS18. Color blocking is making an appearance much like their autumn/winter line but what really drew me in was the green. The leaf dress in Look 15 is INSANE and I would wear it every day of my life if I could.
KJS: That leaf dress deserves and award. But look 26 is probably my favorite. That tiered gown with the giant bow is so feminine and soft wit the right amount of chic.
SAS: I just really loved the styling of this shoot. Very minimalist desert California vibes which I am always down for.
KJS: Sign me up for look 18. I will wear that every day of spring. Honestly, come and see.
SAS: This collection looked like it was made out of the softest silk and moved with the ocean I mean LOOK at both outfits in Look 10 they look like they are floating. Also MOVEMENT award goes to Look 6 bravo.
SAS: Audra making a second appearance in our recaps (first was in AW17) and I LOVED their SS18 collection.Very clean lines and minimal patterns made for classic looks that could be worn so many different places. Also as a fellow witch in training I need the dress from Look 23 THOSE SLEEVES.
KJS: OKAY LOOKS 23 AND 25. I will find this skirt (or a knock off, because lets be real, I’m broke). And yes, Sarah is right. THOSE SLEEVES.
SAS: Sachin & Babi was one of my favorite collections of this season. Anytime someone does a navy with a pastel pink I go nuts so obviously Look 12 really did it for me. Also if you didn’t know TASSELS ARE IN as shown by these earrings and sleeve embellishments.
KJS: OH MY GOSH THE SATIN. THE TASSELS. THE MIX OF T-SHIRT AND STRUCTURED MAXI SKIRT. Yep, I’m here for this. The variation of colors in this collection gives me the ultimate spring vibes.
SAS: I wasn’t a huge fan of the entire Brock Collection show but these two looks I really enjoyed and the actual runway was gorgeous.
KJS: Look 2 is my favorite from this collection. We’ve all seen the cold-shoulder this last summer, but I love the new take on it with the lace camisole underneath. Also, that bag is super cute.
SAS: THE STARRY NIGHT GOWN IN LOOK 38 IS EVERYTHING I WANT AND NEED.
SAS: Clean lines, simple silhouettes, gorgeous styling.
SAS: VERY into the high waisted trend throughout this entire show. My favorite look was Look 13 because I hate pants but would wear those salmon pants and off the shoulder top every day if I could.
SAS: GIVE. ME. ALL. THE. BODY. TYPES. MY. RUNWAY. QUEENS. Well done Chromat, very well done.
KJS: GET IT CURVY LADIES. Y’ALL LOOK FIERCE.
SAS: The classic princess show of the season goes to Brandon Maxwell. Icy soft pastels and ultra feminine lines. I gasped when Karlie Kloss walked out in that giant gown but my favorite has to be Gigi in Look 41 I LOVE the knot at the top of that skirt.
KJS: If you need me, I’ll be replaying this runway show online for the next eternity. These soft pastels mixed with the textures have me melting. Satin maxis and sweaters are perfect for those not-quite-spring-yet days and these are styled perfectly. Also, Karlie Kloss in look 43 practically killed me.
SAS: I’m going to be honest, I have no idea what was going on with this show but I loved the daring patterns and colors schemes. (Could have done without the hats though.)
SAS: The perfect close to Part I of NYFW SS18, my favorite favorite Christian Siriano. Christian brings it every single season and this one was no exception. My favorite looks were all solid colors (shocking I know) and the cinch and flare of Look 12 was what really sold me. Christian always makes sure to showcase all colors and body types and the last shot (Look 63) nearly brought tears to my eyes. CHRISTIAN FOREVER.
KJS: Look 12 is drop-dead gorgeous. The structure, the silhouette, the black and navy… I’m in love. I also loved this show because Coco Rocha’s daughter was there and danced it out the whole time which melted my heart.
See you back here on Monday for the second half of NYFW!
