The start of December means a lot of things. Christmas trees, colder weather, holiday scented candles, and often the most daunting task of all – Christmas shopping. Christmas shopping can be super fun and rewarding, but at the same time stressful, expensive and did I mention stressful? With that I am here to talk about one of my favorite shopping apps – Poshmark.
Do you have clothes in your closet that have had the tags on them for months? Can’t seem to bring yourself to donate those $250 Hudson jeans from five Christmases ago to Goodwill because Omg I spent over $200 on these I can’t bring them to Goodwill? Need to make a few extra dollars to get your parents a gift they truly deserve? Poshmark could be your answer! Whether you are looking to find a few gifts for below retail price or earn a little bit of extra cash to add to your holiday shopping fund, Poshmark has something for all of us.
SparkNotes version, Poshmark is one of the most popular Buy & Sell apps available. Their tagline is, “Shop the closets of women across America and sell yours too!” which is exactly what you do. You can list and sell your own personal items while also shopping other people’s closets all from the confines of your iPhone (or Samsung, if you are a lowly peasant).
Once you sign up, you’re able to start your very own “closet” which is where you can list all of your items. For reference, here is what mine looks like:
Take some decent looking photos of your items, accurately describe them, and then list them! You set your price and buyers are able to buy directly or make offers on your items. You would be shocked by the amount of love your things will get on this site.
Once something sells, you are immediately emailed a shipping label (USPS Priority Mail) already prepped and ready to send out. Simply pack up your item in a basic box or envelope you have lying around the house or you can go straight to the post office and utilize the free Priority Mail shipping supplies. As soon as your buyer receives their package and accepts it (and hopefully gives you a 5 star rating), your cash is released to you minus a 20% portion that goes directly to Poshmark.
After you make a sale and have money sitting in your balance you have a few options. You can:
- Use your earnings to shop other closets
- Have a check issued to your address for the amount earned
- Direct deposit straight to you bank account
Because I am trash, I usually spend my money on the app unless I really need the cash. Somehow I have sold $746 worth of goods on Poshmark and don’t have much to show for it.
Now let’s get back to the original topic of Christmas shopping. Shopping on Poshmark is a great option if you are looking for a deal on new items. While most closets do sell gently used clothing, there are a ton of listings out there that are brand new, still with the tags on.
I recently purchased this brand new Free People bralette for about 35% off the full price at my local Nordstrom.
You can filter your shopping by brand, as well as for items that are new with tags. It’s a great option for holiday shopping as most items are the same quality you would get at the department store but for a lower retail price. Shipping costs are a fixed $5.95, so you are never paying an outrageous shipping price either (looking at you, Anthropologie).
While the app caters primarily to clothing, you can also find a ton of other items as well, including makeup, accessories, phone cases, candles, etc. Now that we are in the holiday season, they recently introduced a Holiday Gift Guide section, which can help you find the perfect gift with that brand new quality we all want.
Regardless of if you are looking to make some extra money this holiday season or to find the perfect gift for a great price, Poshmark has a little something for everyone and could be the answer to your holiday shopping wants and needs!
