You might want to grab a little snack or a drink or something to sustain you because this review is going to be LONG but I promise it’s worth it. Today we’re talking all things Glossier.
Glossier was started by Into The Gloss founder Emily Weiss (who if you don’t already know about, Google and join me in being in complete awe of how bad ass she is) in 2014. Coming from blog roots, Glossier knows what the hell it’s doing. They pay rapt attention to what their Into The Gloss readers are gravitating toward, what they want out of a product and what price points they’re willing to pay. Basically they’re kicking ass.
Glossier is divided into two Phases. Phase 1 focuses on skincare while Phase 2 focuses on makeup. Phase 1 includes a priming moisturizer, face wash, soothing face mist, lip balm, two face masks and a skin tint. Phase 2 includes a concealer, lipstick, brow wax and highlighter. Being the beauty junkie that I am, I own all of their products minus the skin tint and concealer (both sold out in my shade), lipsticks (all sold out) and the soothing face mist (because I am a ride or die for this rose water mist). Now that you’ve got the backstory on Glossier let’s get into the products.
PHASE 1: SKINCARE
Milky Jelly Cleanser $18 – I have sensitive skin so I am always on the hunt for a gentle face wash that will also work hard to clean the hell out of my pores. The consistency of the Milky Jelly cleanser is almost like a conditioner, thick with a light rose scent. It doesn’t foam and leaves your skin felling super soft and UBER clean. I prefer to use this in the mornings to clean off all of my night time skincare as I use a more heavy duty cleanser at night with my Clarisonic.
Priming Moisturizer $25 – I have been religiously using this Clinique moisturizer for over a year now so I was hesitant to try something new on my skin. I hate when moisturizers feel like they are sitting on top of your face without sinking into your skin but was pleasantly surprised by the Glossier moisturizer. It’s buildable so you can slather on as little or as much as your heart desires. What I get out of this moisturizer that I don’t out of my Clinique one is that the Glossier moisturizer really preps my skin for foundation. I’ve noticed a HUGE difference in the way my makeup goes on after using the Glossier primer and it has become a staple in my morning routine.
Balm Dot Com $12 each ($30 for the flavored trio) – I’ve never had a holy grail chapstick/lip balm….until now. Like my skincare, I am SUPER picky about lip balms. They can’t be too greasy, they can’t just sit on top of my lips and they can’t smell awful. Balm Dot Com passes all of these picky requests. It’s buildable (like the priming moisturizer) so I just take a tiny bit and rub it onto my lips with my finger. Any excess I use as a hand moisturizer because BONUS it is a universal skin salve (honestly bless Glossier for multifunctional products). In addition to the OG Balm Dot Com, they now have three flavored balms in pink (rose), red (cherry) and nude (mint). Also in the family is a coconut flavor but I really don’t enjoy coconut (sue me) so I didn’t shell out for that one. I love Balm Dot Com so much that I have one in my desk, one in my purse and one in my car. Balm Dot Com 4ever.
I am a HUGE face mask fan. I try to put one on every three days or so and depending on what my skin needs I’ll do a detox, cleansing or moisturizing mask. These Glossier masks are BAD ASS Y’ALL. They were formulated to be used together but obviously you can just use one depending on how intense of an at home spa experience you are going for.
Mega Greens Galaxy Pack $22 – The Mega Greens Galaxy mask is a detox mask. It is super gentle and helps to draw out excess oil while reducing redness (which is a huge skincare need for me). I leave mine on for about 20 minutes (or one episode of Parks and Rec) and then rinse it off with warm water. My skin feels SO CLEAN afterwards. I would compare it to the Kiehl’s Rare Earth Pore mask in cleansing quality but without the dryness that that the Kiehl’s mask leaves my skin with.
Moisturizing Moon Mask $22 – I have oily skin so my masks usually lean more toward detoxifying rather than moisturizing. But after using this Glossier mask I am a changed woman. I had no idea what I was missing. After I wash off my Mega Greens Galaxy mask I slather on a thick layer of this Moon Mask for another 20-25 minutes. Wash this one off with warm water and then RELISH in how soft and moisturized your skin is, you will not regret it. (Bonus beauty tip: a lot of ladies have mentioned they use a thinner layer of the Moon Mask as an overnight treatment. I personally haven’t attempted this yet because my skin leans on the oily side but for all of you ladies with dry skin I would highly recommend this.)
PHASE 2: MAKEUP
Boy Brow $16 (shown in brown) – Out of all of Glossier’s products, Boy Brow is my absolute favorite. My brows are naturally thick so I don’t do much to them. In a brow product I look for a little bit of pigment to fill in gaps, a hold that lasts all day and a wand/brush that will help me comb and groom them into place. I have previously used both the Benefit Gimmie Brow and Anastasia Brow Gel but didn’t fall in love with either formula. I found both to be too intense of a hold that made my brows look weirdly crunchy. Boy Brow isn’t a complete liquid formula, it’s actually a wax. It doesn’t harden into a crunch but instead just combs and holds those little hairs into place all day long. The wand is tiny which helps a ton with control/placement and the pigment is just enough to fill in where I need some help. It is literally the only brow product I use now.
Haloscope $22 – Everyone who knows me knows I love a good highligher. I love glitter, I love sparkle, I love to SHINE especially in the summer. I’m a born and bread California girl and there is nothing I enjoy more than making my face look like the sun herself blessed me with a constant glow. Haloscope is the most recent addition to the Glossier family and I’m not going to lie, I was a little hesitant when they first announced it’s arrival. I am very loyal to the Becca Cosmetics and Colourpop highlighters because of their kick ass formulas and was super interested to see which direction Glossier would take theirs. Haloscope’s outer rim is infused with real crystals (MEGA BONUS POINTS) for optimal glow while the inner core is a mix of moisturizers to keep you looking as fresh and hydrated as humanly possible. I love using Haloscope on a lighter makeup day to give me an extra boost of moisture along my cheekbone while still keeping me looking like a goddess. Apply by drawing a half halo from your brow bone down through your cheekbone. The formula is creamy enough that I don’t even use a brush to blend out, I literally just use my fingertips. Quartz is more of a true highlight on me while Topaz gives me more of that coveted bronzed look. Both are now in my arsenal and are used on a weekly basis.
Overall I am, and continue to be, insanely impressed by every thing Glossier has to offer. Not only is their quality incredible, but their price points are on the medium to low side for a higher end beauty brand. It is also worth mentioning that in the three orders I have placed in the past few months, I have gotten a shipping confirmation within three hours of placing said order. THREE. HOUR. TURN. AROUND. Who else does that??? Literally no one.
Also quick note, their packaging is to DIE for. All of their boxes open up with the trademark Glossier pink shade and motto SKINCARE FIRST, MAKEUP SECOND, SMILE ALWAYS. Each order comes in the quart size Glossier pink bubble zip bags which are completely reusable (I use mine every time I travel now) and Glossier stickers to deck out your products with. I am a huge sucker for good packaging and Glossier is KILLING IT.
If you want to try Glossier you can use this code to get 20% off your first order. They have free shipping over $30 and FREE RETURNS. What more can you even ask for.
Happy shopping! May your skin be as clear as the California sky, may your brows be as strong as a hammer and may your highlight be as poppin as the July sunshine. CLEAR SKIN AND BEAUTIFUL MAKEUP FOR ALL.
