I’ve always been a fan of painting my own nails. I find it very therapeutic to sit on the floor, turn on Netflix and go through the routine of cleaning up and painting my nails for a little while. Back story on my nails, I have never worn acrylic or gel just because I’m terrified that they will ruin my already thin natural ones. I’ve never had an extreme brand loyalty to any one nail polish and recently decided to try out the Formula X line at Sephora. SPOILER ALERT, I think I have found the nail promised land.
Sephora has a deal where you can buy the Formula X system for $32. In this deal you get the Formula X nail cleanser, base coat, one colored polish of your choice and a top coat. I also chose to splurge on the nail strengthener because as I said before, my nails are notoriously thin and peel very easily.
First off I have to say I am a SUCKER for routine and Formula X gives you a super easy one to follow with their 4 (or 5 with nail strengthener) step nail program. Quick overview of each step: 1) The nail cleanser is basically a way to help get off the grease/acid leftover from your nail polish remover. 2) The nail strengthener helps rebuild weak or brittle nails. 3) The base coat is little sticky (on purpose) in order to help your nail color bind better. 4) Nail color, standard procedure. 5) The top coat is smooth and shiny and glorious. I don’t know what is in this top coat but it is something magical. It dries quickly and then HOLDS ON. I want to marry this top coat.
I’ve been using the system for about a month now and I still love it. My nails typically chip after 3 days but with Formula X it honestly stays on for a WEEK. YES, AN ENTIRE SEVEN DAYS. I usually end up taking it off not because it chips, but because my nails have grown out too much and I’m ready for a color change.
I’ve read other reviews that say that if you use just the polish without the system that your results won’t last as long which is a bummer. But if you are like me and choose to do your nails at home 90% of the time, I think the $32 is a great investment and well worth the moola.
P.S. If you’re a glitter nail fan you will LOVE their glitter polishes. Being a glitter junkie, I recently tried out two of their Divine Stardust colors. I am used to painting my nails with a glitter polish, being in love with it for a few days and then DREADING taking it off because taking off glitter nail polish is an actual nightmare. These polishes were not as easy as taking off normal polish but nowhere near the struggle of other glitter polishes I have tried. The glitter in these seems to be a little thinner without sacrificing the shine that I love which is a win in my book. SHINE BBY SHINE.
