I don’t know if I’ve ever been more excited to see spring in my 20+ years of life. It has been a wet and gloomy winter in California (which we are not made for) and I am so ready to get back to my regular amount of sun allotted hours. This month we will also see the return of Daylight Savings (FINALLY) which means we can all come home from work and not be engulfed in darkness.
Spring is the season where I usually get my groove back. Not that my groove was necessarily gone in the winter, but it’s was definitely a bit more subdued. Spring has always meant the start of things in my life. When I was younger that meant new sports seasons, being able to play outside again and my birthday. Now in my 20’s it means the time when my plants will bloom, beach time without freezing and….still my birthday. This time last year I was in the thick of building the TGS website and doing things like choosing fonts, layouts, and photos sizes. I can’t believe it’s already been a full year and that this thing is still chugging along. I know I’ve said it a million times but thank you for being here with us whether it’s for one day or twenty.
I’m very very excited for our upcoming March posts. We will be covering the new Beauty and the Beast movie, both Milan and Paris fashion weeks, creating a DIY Copper Plant Rack, writing a team post on International Women’s Day and writing up a recap of the highly anticipated Bachelor finale to name a few.
We’ve gotten fairly political on TGS (here, here, here) and that is something I am extremely proud of. It is so important to stay educated, awake and aware as our country goes through a laundry list of changes in the next few years. I know it can be extremely overwhelming and anxiety ridden so please always remember to take care of yourself mentally and emotionally. A few things I’ve found that help me digest every thing that is going on are: reading the news in half hour increments and then giving myself a break to recalibrate, making time to do things that make me happy each day (even if it’s just watering my plants for 15 minutes) and listening to podcasts and radio shows (my current favorite is Pod Save America) that showcase people who are smarter than I am because when you surround yourself with intelligent people, you are pushed to become better. STAY AWAKE. (PS I am finally reading A Handmaid’s Tale for the first time in my young life and I cannot wait for it to shock the hell out of my system.)
In February’s EL I left you with a song which is a tradition I think I will attempt to carry on. This month’s song is going to be Voulez-Vous because I feel like we could all use a good dance song right now and this is one of my all time favorites. Happy Leprechaun Month.
