Charlotte Tilbury is a luxury makeup brand based out of the UK that is still fairly new on the makeup scene. Charlotte herself is a well known celebrity makeup artist who launched her own line in 2013. Currently only available at select Nordstrom and Bloomingdales in the US, Charlotte’s line is well loved and for good reason. Today I’m going to talk about four cult products in the line that I’ve been testing for the past six weeks YAY.
This is my favorite product out of the bunch by far. Wonderglow is essentially a facial primer that goes on before your foundation to help your makeup last all day long. Different from other primers I’ve used in the past, Wonderglow has a “glow” infused into the formula that brightens and luminizes the skin (aka makes you look less tired, more youthful and reduces redness). I’ve also found that on days when I don’t want to wear any makeup but need a bit of a boost, I can just throw on some Wonderglow after my moisturizer and I look like I slept twelve hours instead of seven. It’s on the pricey side at $55 but I only use about a fingertips worth each day so I know this bottle will last me a long time.
I’ve been on the hunt for my Holy Grail foundation for years. Charlotte’s has been on my list for a while and I’ve been waiting for my Born This Way to run out before purchasing. Don’t get me wrong, I did really like my Too Faced foundation but I found it a tiny bit cakey by the end of a ten hour day wear. After using Magic Foundation for about six weeks I can say this is my new go to for medium to full coverage. Different from many foundations I’ve tried, this one actually looks better as the day goes on which has never happened to me. I prefer to apply with a brush rather than a beauty blender to keep the coverage more on the full side but even with a beauty blender it is very buildable. THANK YOU CHARLOTTE.
I puprchased the Cheek to Chic blush in the shade First Love. I’m not a huge fan of pinky blushes (I prefer more of a bronzy color on my cheeks) so the sales associate at Nordstrom suggested First Love. I have to start out by saying these blushers are EXTREMELY pigmented which is amazing. I barely had to tap my brush into the compact to get the color payoff I was looking for. The idea of Charlotte’s blushers are to swish your brush on the outer color to build out most of your cheek and then “pop” a tiny bit of the middle color right on the apple of your cheeks to finish off the look. While I did love the formula and color of First Love, I ended up returning it because the color was far too similar to the sculpt color in the Filmstar Bronze & Glow palette (below) and I couldn’t justify the $40 price tag for another blusher in the same shade.
By far the most expensive of the bunch, the Film Star Bronze & Glow palette is a contouring and highlighting palette. This was my first real venture into countouring and if you are a newbie like me, this is an excellent introduction. Not extremely harsh by any means, the “sculpt” side is more of a warm bronzer than anything. On the right is the highlighting powder which is an excellent addition to my already growing highlighter collection. It is a very soft cream color that is great for a subtle day look but can also be built up for a more intense nighttime highlight if needed. Both the sculpt and highlight go on extremely smooth and are fairly pigmented so I never need to dig in with my brush. I use this almost every day and it’s fantastic for traveling.
Last but not least I have have HAVE to talk about Charlotte’s packaging. The rose gold accents and sturdy compacts are rightly raved about in the makeup community. I love leaving the makeup on my vanity because they look so gorgeous all by themselves. I also own three of Charlotte’s Matte Revolution lipsticks that I’m going to talk about in a later post and their lipstick bullets are also in the rose gold packaging which makes me feel like I’m a Hollywood starlet in the 1950s.
All in all, Charlotte’s brand is an amazing collection of products. All price points definitely fall into the luxury price bracket but if you’re willing to splurge on a few key products as a fellow makeup lover you can’t go wrong with Charlotte. Happy shopping!
